Instant Payments Regulation Brings Changes – Procountor Ensures Continuity of Your Payments (2025)

What’s happening?

The EU Instant Payments Regulation will take effect on October 9, 2025.

This new SEPA regulation requires banks to process euro-denominated payments within seconds, 24/7, every day of the year. It also introduces a new feature: Verification of Payee, allowing customers to check the recipient’s name and account number before confirming a payment.


What does Verification of Payee mean in practice?

When making a payment, the bank must offer the payer a chance to verify whether the account number and recipient name match. If they don’t, the payer will receive a notification before confirming the payment. The payer can still choose to proceed even if the details don’t match.

This verification step improves payment security, helps prevent fraud, and reduces errors in transactions.


Procountor’s payment services will continue as usual

We’ve worked closely with all our banking partners to ensure that Procountor’s payment services will remain uninterrupted when the regulation comes into force.

As a Procountor user, you don’t need to take any action – we’ve prepared for the changes on your behalf.

Banks are prioritizing instant payment features in their own online banking services first, but new options will also become available through integration channels. Procountor is actively monitoring these developments and evaluating how new services can be incorporated into our payment solutions.

Payments made via Procountor will continue to be processed as standard SEPA payments, following bank schedules and without recipient verification. So, in the first phase, the regulation’s impact will be visible to payers mainly in online banking environments.


Tips for smooth invoicing after the regulation takes effect

While payments from Procountor will continue as normal, it’s important to ensure your sales invoices include the necessary details to help your customers identify the recipient. This ensures incoming payments are processed smoothly and your customers don’t encounter unnecessary errors during recipient verification.

✅ Check recipient details on your sales invoices

Make sure your invoices display your company’s official registered name – not just a marketing or trade name. This helps the payer confirm that the account number and name match, avoiding unnecessary error messages.

You can manage the company name shown on invoices under: Management > Company Information > Basic Information
Note: Changing basic information requires appropriate user permissions.

✅ Clearly mention invoice financing or client fund accounts

If you use external invoice financing or client fund accounts, clearly state this on the invoice. This helps avoid confusion if the name shown during recipient verification doesn’t match the invoicing party.

Also, ensure your billing or customer service teams are aware of the recipient verification process and can respond to customer questions, especially if error messages appear during payment.
